Opera Queensland presents its 2010 Season of 'The Merry Widow'. This is a story about a widow who is worth millions! Having recently lost her husband yet still radiating love and happiness, the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari has an important decision to make. Her beauty and charm capture many. However, her remarriage to a foreigner would leave the tiny country of Pontevedro bankrupt. The embassy plot to keep her affections (and fortune) within its borders unfolds when the suave and handsome Count Danilo, a former lover of Hanna's, arrives on the scene. This sparkling new production of Lehar's light-hearted and whimsical operetta is coming to Gladstone after its Brisbane season. Director Anna Sweeny and designer Simone Romaniuk come together to make this witty and enchanting "frock" opera a must-see.
